The worship of ancestors has become a long tradition of some ethnic communities in Viet Nam. Through the process of cultural exchange, the worship of ancestors of Vietnamese has effect the custom of worship Khmer grandparent’s in Kien Giang.

Who are the ancestors?

The Khmer call grandparents are “ Dol Ta”. “ Dol” mean grandmother,”Ta” mean grandfather. They concept Dol Ta are people in the family, Chua Bua (ancestry), ancestor, predecessor, deceased,…it’s similar to the concept ancestor of Vietnamese.

Grandparents are the people who were born generations, because of  blood relationship so had love, protect and mutual care… They usually teach the right things as well as experiences for their children. The childrens always respected, obeyed, health care and gratitude grandparents…

Going to Tet is another beauty in Kien Giang custom. The meaning of it is to present gifts on the occasion of Spring, Tet.

Who has what is precious and meaningful to give it. Mainly also agricultural products, food harvested after the last season. The most popular gift is pancakes and fried pancakes. These are homemade food items (glutinous rice, beans, bananas, pork, ..) home-grown. Everybody pound cake, wrapping and baking bread. In the cold air of the winter season, the whole family gathered around the kitchen with a fire of roses made of wood, cooking the cake very happy. Often the children can’t  wait until the cake is cooked, but only the woman in the house stays awake all night to watch the fire and add water until it is removed. Early the next morning, the house also gave the cake to the basket to bring to relatives, relatives, friends. Every house.

In addition to bread, people also go to other products such as fish (the fish has just finished shooting), dry (mainly dried fish chunks, which can be used as a drink with wine, but also used drink with tea), ...

Festival

Kien Giang is a land of diverse terrain and rich in cultural heritage. The province has more than 360 worship facilities, 38 scenic spots - historical cultural relics are ranked. At present, the province has 389 festivals, including 235 religious festivals, 91 folk festivals, 62 revolutionary historical festivals and other festivals. Particularly, there are 8 typical festivals attracting thousands of visitors in Kien Giang.

Kien Giang is a coastal province in the Mekong Delta, located in the southwest of Vietnam, in which territory consists of land and islands. According to statistics in the province of Kien Giang there are 49 monuments, including some outstanding monuments can be referred to as Tam Bao Pagoda, the revolutionary relic Hon Dat, relics U Minh Thuong, Phu Quoc Prison, Thien Hau Pagoda, Quan Thanh De Temple ... Every year in the province there are many festivals, especially the national hero Nguyen Trung Truc festival took place on August lunar month. In Kien Giang, traditional handicraft villages are very special, such as knit cushion, weaving Ta Nien matting, Hon Dat pots, making handicrafts by tortoise, making bean in Ha Tien.
